✶ Then Graduated with a B.A. in sociology from Lincoln University in 1974 .
✶ Oliver was awarded an M.S. from Columbia University in planning and administration in 1976
✶ On May 6, 2018, Oliver received the honorary degree of Doctor of Humane Letters from Lincoln University.

✶ who served as the second lieutenant governor of New Jersey from 2018 until her death in 2023.
✶ A member of the Democratic Party, she previously represented the 34th legislative
District in the New Jersey General Assembly from 2004 to 2018 .
✶ She also served as speaker of the body from 2010 to 2014.
✶ Oliver also ran for U.S. Senate in a 2013 special election.

✶ No cause of death was given, Murphy’s office said in a statement from the Oliver family.

In a statement, Murphy said he and his family “are incredibly saddened and distraught to learn of the passing of our dear friend, colleague, and partner in government.”
“When I selected her to be my running mate in 2017, Lieutenant Governor Oliver was already a trailblazer in every sense of the word,” Murphy said. “I knew then that her decades of public service made her the ideal partner for me to lead the State of New Jersey. It was the best decision I ever made.”
“She brought a unique and invaluable perspective to our public policy discourse and served as an inspiration to millions of women and girls everywhere, especially young women of color,” Murphy said.
The governor plans to cut short his vacation in Italy and return to New Jersey, his office said Tuesday.
